August still has plenty of mysterious thrills, emotional rollercoasters, and action-packed adventures for audiences to escape into.
The month starts with M. Night Shyamalan’s next murder-filled thriller, set entirely in Toronto! Filmed at The Rogers Centre, "Trap" focuses on a notorious serial killer locked inside a concert with his daughter after learning the event is a police sting operation meant for him. Continuing this month’s edge-of-your-seat movie lineup is a throwback to one of the most adored sci-fi franchises with Alien: Romulus. The Cailee Spaeny-led sequel is set to emulate Riddley Scott’s original film and will see the return of Xenomorphs in all of their acid-spitting glory. If you want to get lost in another kind of space adventure, Borderlands should be at the top of your list! Director Eli Roth is finally bringing fans of the acclaimed video game series the zany adaptation they’ve been begging for. Are you still wanting more mystery and intrigue? On the flip side, Harold & The Purple Crayon and The Forge are some of the most touching movies you and the family will see all year. Both films explore the difficulties of transitioning into adulthood and letting go of the past in entirely different ways. Continuing these themes is It Ends With Us, the highly anticipated adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling romance novel about relationships, generational trauma, and survival. This isn’t everything coming to theatres this month. Keep reading to learn more about all the must-see movies coming to Cineplex throughout August!
