Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking to hire a full-time Custodian. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

This position works primarily weekdays (Monday - Friday), during daytime hours (4:00 am to 12:30 pm) but will be required to work once every 16th weekend. This position may require some holidays, and possible overtime. A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; must stay with WMHI in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1000 upon hire and $1000 after completing probation.

Position Summary

DutiesAs the Custodian, you are responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks at WMHI. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Operating automatic cleaning equipment, such as automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and wall washers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning equipment.
• Stripping and sealing floors.
• Cleaning toilets showers and furniture.
• Shoveling snow.
• Replacing light bulbs.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $15.86 per hour (approximately $33,000 per year), or the minimum at the time of the appointment, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

This position is eligible for a night differential of $0.80 for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/08.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circ*mstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to complete a pre-employment health assessment including a TB screen prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

• Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
• Ability to use cleaning products and follow appropriate safety/sanitizing procedures including the use of protective equipment and chemical agents.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others, communicate, and use problem solving processes.

Well-qualified candidates will also have one or more of the following:

• Previous experience with custodial and/or housekeeping work.
• Experience using basic hand tools (e.g. drill, screwdriver, etc.) and custodial equipment (e.g. floor scrubber, Kaivack, carpet cleaner, etc.).
